It’s been a while since my last post – apologies! A lot has happened in my personal life which forced me to shift my focus on matters other than State Of Silver. Now all things have settled, however, I am back and promise to not disappear again. As my last post was was in 2015,I hope everyone had a marvelous Holiday season and started the New Year with a positive attitude!
Like every other year, I returned to the Netherlands for Christmas and New Year’s Eve. It was incredible to reunite with my family and friends after such a tumultuous year. While I keep in close contact with my family through technology, there are times that I get homesick and wish I had my family here. To give you some background, I was born and raised in a smaller city in the eastern part of The Netherlands called Deventer. Even though I moved to Amsterdam when I was 15 and consider it “my” city, my parents still live in Deventer and I therefore celebrated Christmas there. My NYE was undoubtedly the best one I have ever had — I usually dread spending a huge sum for an overrated party that always turns out to be lackluster. Fortunately, my dear friend Bibi hosted a highly successful house party to which all my fellow Dutch expats were invited. We danced the night away and had an incredible time. I am so happy to have entered 2016 with my closest friends and am convinced that 2016will be a good year!
Amsterdam is such a beautiful and unique place that always makes me so incredibly proud to be Dutch. The canals, architecture, history, and people(..and coffee shops) make it an awesome place like no other. I had so much fun shooting on my own turf because it’s such a different atmosphere and aesthetic. I am quite obsessed with the outfit I am wearing in the photos. I am especially loving the high-wasted pants that I snatched from my father’s wardrobe.Just like the Chelsea boots I wore a while back, these pants date back 20+ years back, and I am so glad he didn’t throw them out. I never thought my dad would ever become my style icon, but he has — I love it!
Next week I will post about my Prague + Los Angeles city trips — stay tuned!
