Turtleneck: TOPMAN | Jacket: TOPMAN Premium | Pants: Bellfield | Bag: Matt & Nat | Shoes: Dr. Martens | Sunglasses: ASOS

This may not come as a surprise to my friends, but the Turtleneck is my absolute favorite garment of all time. I have been waiting all summer to reunite with my favorite turtles, and I cannot express the sheer joy I experienced when taking my babies out of storage. The weather has cooled down since my last post, so what better way to initiate the colder seasons with a blog post dedicated to the timeless Turtleneck?

Before we further elaborate on my obsession for Turtlenecks, exploration of the history of this versatile garment is pivotal. According to Wikipedia, turtleneck-like garments date back to at least the 15th century and have continuously evolved within the world of fashion. Since the 20th century, the Turtleneck has been associated with radical academics, philosophers, young wealthy men, artists and intellectuals. This image has obviously changed, as the turtleneck has since transformed into a true fashion statement for both men and women alike. In this day and age, we are bombarded with innovative fashion styles that causes many to lose sight of what’s really important. I would therefore like to take a minute to acknowledge the amazing work Ms. Jenner has done for the Turtleneck community — we love you, Kris!

You may wonder why I love turtlenecks as much as I do. Well, let me tell you. Not only are turtlenecks extremely comfortable, they are flattering as well. Obstructing the view of the neck truly accentuates the face and elongates the figure. Whenever I need to look professional but am not feeling a button-up, the Turtleneck is definitely my go-to option. The garment is easily dressed up and down, and since the turtleneck family has expanded with multiple styles (i.e. the mock-turtle, sleeveless turtle, and half-turtle), you can never get bored. For this look, I paired my gray Turtleneck with a classic jacket, Oliver Twist-esque pants, and black chelsea boots — definitely a great autumn outfit!

All in all, I think it’s safe to say that the Turtleneck has proven to be an eternal flame. I will continue to wear my Turtlenecks with pride, and am hoping that we will one day live in a world without Turtleneck-less people.
