A few months ago, I came across a distressed denim jacket while browsing some of my favorite boutiques in SoHo. While I obsessed over its uniqueness, I found the $400+ price tag a tad exorbitant. As I pride myself on being creative and resourceful, I decided to buy a vintage Levi’s jacket and imitate the ripped look myself.

Creating the distressed look turned out to be extremely easy. After drawing the desired cuts on the jacket with a pencil, I used a sharp boxcutter to do the damage. Don’t worry if the cuts turn out crooked, as the distressing later on will mask any imperfections. After all cuts were made, I used a sharp skinny pin to loosen up the threads around each cut. Make sure to only pull the threads gently. Use sandpaper around the cuts and desired places to create a more natural, worn-out look. The more distressed, the better!

Not only did I create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, I saved $380 by doing so!favicon (3)
